Dedicated to the memory of Father Mac

This site is a tribute to Father Mac, who was born in Ipswich, on June 26, 1947 to Patrick and Margaret McKenna. He was the eldest of 5 children; he had two brothers: Keith and steve and two sisters: Glynis and Tracey. He excelled in academia and was top in most of his classes. His passion and talent for sports were very evident, and he was described by many as a brilliant footballer of the beautiful game, and infact was scouted by Chelsea and Tottenham.

His love for the outdoors started from early childhood. He was always keen to learn about his surroundings, especially regarding nature and wildlife. He would forever be outside searching for bottles, pipes, rare birds, digging his own bait for sea fishing and pursuing his photography.

Dad was well known on the photography scene within local and regional newspapers, and was fondly known as wildrob. He won countless competitions he entered, the last one based on kessingland village.

The most proudest achievement in dads life was undoubtedly becoming a father. He met the love of his life Doreen in Ipswich and together moved to the coastal town Lowestoft, and eventually to Kessingland. They raised 7 children: Paul, Stuart, Alastair, Rhiannon, Ryan, Declan and Roisin. His children were his life, and he thoroughly enjoyed raising them outdoors with various hobbies and creating memorable adventures. He was the definition of what a dad should be and was always there for his children, whether it was watching them play school sports, helping with homework or teaching them his vast amount of hobbies and interests. We have fond memories of countless adventures to the beach to search for precious stones and amber, swimming in the sea and climbing everything and anything. Family holidays to scotland were most treasured, a rare occurrence for such a large family. The amount of photos taken by our dad on one outing, were more than people take in a lifetime. He loved taking his children to Dunwich, the river hundred, minsmere, walberswick, carlton marshes and many other local areas to enjoy the natural beauty. He encouraged and supported all of his children to reach their full potential. To this day his children share interests in sports, art, twitching, nature, wildlife, photography and fishing, to name a few. He was proud of all his children, and loved them all dearly. His grandchildren: Millie, Daisy, Brody, Reggie, Jax and Tommy played a major part in his life, and enjoyed playing with them endlessly in the garden, taking photos and making them laugh.

I am proud to say he made us who we all are today, and without him the world will never be the same.

He is much loved, and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. He will always be remembered as a doting father, grandad, brother and uncle. We all love you so much dad, sleep tight, until we meet again. Forever our hero ❤ XXX
